Love Notes to Mr Adegbite (1)

To My Darling
Mr Adegbite

Today
Today I noticied, everytime I listen to a love song I think about you.
Today I realised, anytime somebody kisses in a movie I think about us.
Today I woke wishing we could stay asleep a little longer in each other arms.
Each others arms, where there are no fears, shame or doubt.

need
I need you, to want me more
I need you, to see me more
I need you, to hear me more
I need you, i need you to fight for this more

more
More loving, less fighting
More believing, less doubting
More dreaming....

NIGERIANS AND TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE'S WEIGHT

You are getting FATTER!
Do you know you are becoming FAT
You have gotten so FAT
or
Why don't you EAT, you are so skinny
EAT something you are too slim
We need to feed you.

These my friends, are the comments we grow to hear ever too frequently in Nigeria.
It is so embarrassing to meet someone after a while and all they can comment on is your weight.
It is a POOR conversation starter.
As a matter of fact you can ruin a chance at a friendship from the statements I listed above.
People know their weights and for most people it is already a struggle.
There is simply no need to embarrass a person especially publicly with these remarks
STOP IT IF YOU DO IT SERIOUSLY.

How to moisturize your FRO

Like My never before seen mentor Naptural85 would say; Natural Hair is Naturally dry. This is so true and If you have kept your Natural Hair for any period in Time you would agree with this statement.
I walk around town and I hear comments like how do you maintain your hair, I could never do it my natural hair is so dry and hard and strong and unbearable. Yours is so soft, if mine was like yours I would keep it. Well today is your lucky day. Your hair can be as luscious and juicy as mine and as God intended with a little TLC:

Tips:

  • Step one is water. Ensure you drink loads of water and also spray/ sprinkle water on your hair daily. Your hair is like a plant, just the way you do not drench your hair in water or leave it dry, the same way you do not over wet or leave your hair dry. I suggest getting a spray bottle, and using it to spray you hair with water every time your hair feels dry. I do mine morning and Night just because that's when I have the time.
  • Step two is sealing: After watering your Locs you have got to seal them, and by sealing i mean protect and minimize evaporation of the water you just misted your hair with. Sealants are oils or butter. Now weather you use oils or butters would depend solely on the thickness and curly or how coily your strands are. For any 4 Hair type (4a, 4b. 4c. 4s, 4z) your hair would seal better with thicker creamer oils like shea butter or olive oil. For lighter coils or curls oils like almond oil, coconut oil and the like would suit you best.
  • keep your fingers out of the Hair Please. These would keep your hair from over manipulation and moisturizing your fingers instead of your hair.
Above all if you would just embrace your beautiful curls and coils and texture just the way they are for what they are and stop comparing them to your Brazilian/peruvian/morrocan/indian weave on texture you would love your natural hair for what it is. Till nest time x o x o

Secrets and Relationships

If you are building relationships are secrets allowed?
If so how much secrets?
What kind of secrets?
In an Ideal world is it reasonable to share who you are?
All you are?
What if the Secret isn't a secret?
what if you just aren't ready to share?
When do you get ready?
When do you ever feel ready?
Is hurt a secret to be Kept?
Is illness?
What is a secret?
When is a secret a secret? Is it a secret when more than one knows?
A lot bother's my mind
A lot of worries
Is a worry a secret?
I don't know is what we say
To hide from the truth.

AFRO CORNER

Over the past 4 years I have seen a big come back of the natural African woman’s hair. This change probably arose due to over prized ‘weave-ons’ and quickly thinning and declining hair lines. Well I am pleased to say that with your natural hair you are quite unlikely to have thinning hair as long as it is not being chemically altered. In this corner I will drop tips to easily maintaining a ‘Fro’ and might I just add. Anything worth having is worth putting the time and resource to.

QUICK TIPS ON HANDLING YOUR NATURAL HAIR
  • ·         Before you wash your hair put hair in small sections ready for de-tangling
  • ·         It is best to detangle with a wide tooth comb. Lightly oil hair with Shea butter (best detangling oil ever!)
  • ·         Cover hair with an elastic waterproof cap and allow the Shea butter steam the hair, you can add favorite oils.
  • ·         Shampoo only your roots and not the whole length of natural hair this reduces drying of hair which leads to breakage (It is wise to use sulfate free shampoos). Rinsing the shampoo through the length of the hair is enough to clean the hair.
  • ·         Remember to use a conditioner with enough slip in it. (It’s easier to condition if the hair is still in sections)
  • ·         Allow the hair to Air dry, don't forget to add in your hair moisturizer and oils.

·         To properly maintain your natural hair. Heat use should be minimized as it alters the texture of hair and heat damaged hair is impossible to repair as the protein bond in the hair would be destroyed.

.......Let's talk relationships

Relationships today are so ridiculous and I don't mean parent and child, no i'm talking about man and woman.
Its become this games with rules and ways and styles and patterns, I mean one could go to school to study how to date in Nigeria. For instance, a scenario for a typical Nigerian girl would be; Is he married... How long has he been chasing you, how is he chasing you, make him work for it, he won't appreciate it if you are just simple, don't pick your call always, don't be obvious, don't use the 'L' word yet. Well still have other guys as friends you don't want to put your eggs in one basket,  its just ridiculous. A scenario for a guy would be well I don't ACTUALLY KNOW.....its just so complicated. Why can't things be simple. A guy meets a girl, He loves her, they build a future together loving one another like in the stories, like Adam and Eve all easy and purposeful no games, no opinions, no stupid CULTURES. Just two people in love......................

..........loud voices, brisk movements, and sweat trickling down my face. Yes i am back to Nigeria. WOOHOO!!! the motherland. Yes people look like they could do with a chill pill and act like they are the ish... I love this place I call home.
My only concern might be reconnecting with friends or better yet finding new friends. Plus there is going to be need for maximum FRIZZ CONTROL my hair looks like a big ball of mess.
